There’s something special about light bursts in spiritfarer stories. They’re like a burst of sunshine in the middle of a dark night, a ray of hope in the midst of despair. They’re beautiful and fleeting, but they always leave a lasting impression. So when I read about one such light burst in the story “The Light That Failed” by Kaitlyn Elizabeth Hudson, I was intrigued. I knew that there must be something special about it because it was mentioned multiple times throughout the story. In the beginning of the story, we meet Lizzy, a young woman who has been living in an abandoned building with her cat and dog for months. She’s been trying to find ways to make money so that she can buy food for her animals and get them back home. One day, she comes across some lightbulbs hanging from a tree outside her building. She takes them down and starts to use them to light up her room so that she can see better at night. She starts to see things that she never would have seen before – people walking around outside her building, cars driving by on the street outside, and even animals! She’s amazed at how much easier life is now because of these bulbs! Lizzy continues to use these bulbs until one day she gets a call from someone who works at the building next door. They say that there’s been an accident inside and all of the people inside have been killed. Lizzy is devastated hearing this news – she thought that everything was going to be okay after all those months of searching for her family! But then something amazing happens: Lizzy’s family shows up! They’ve been hiding out since Lizzy’s last communication with them and they finally come out into the open – they’ve finally found each other after all these years! Lizzy is overjoyed to finally have family again and can’t wait to tell them all about her new life!
