Google has been collecting your location history since 2009, when it started using a feature called “Location History” in its Android operating system. The company has been collecting this data even if you have never used its Google Maps app or used its search engine. Now, Google is being forced to answer questions about how long it keeps this data and what it does with it. In a letter to the US Congress, the company said that it keeps Location History for “a minimum of 7 days and up to 2 years”. This means that Google can track your movements even if you have deleted the Location History app from your device or turned off Location History in your Google account settings.
